Executive Summary
The current business issues within Charleston Transitional Facility are that all of their
training is through the corporate office which is located in another city about an hour away from
where the employees would be working and it takes up a lot of time for employees to attend. I
believe that this is an inconvenience for the company because although it is paid training, this
company does not pay for the gas to the training sessions for the new employees to attend, takes
a while to get into a training session and does not allow the employee to work and be able to
complete the required job duties.
Another reason that it is an inconvenience is because when we are very short staffed and
they hire new employees, they still cannot work until they have completed all of the training.
This is true for current employees also when they are required to take a refresher course. The
employees have to work until a training session comes open and they have no idea what to do. It
also makes it hard because the training sessions have a time limit and a lot of times all the
required information does not get covered.
A solution to this would be to create an e- learning program so that the employees can
complete the training at home within a certain time frame. Completing this at home at the
employee’s convenience would help the company save money paying a trainer and this would
also ensure that all of the required training gets completed. It will also help the trainers to get the
training they need a lot quicker. Having the training sessions online so that it will help reduce the Pg. 2
company from being short-staffed, not covering all of the topics and ensure that training gets completed when required for current employees and right away for new hire employees.
CTF will have to make a lot of changes in order to be able to offer e- learning for the
required training that is needed to work for them. Holding a meeting with all managers and the
training department would be a start. They need to discuss the e- learning program and how it
would benefit them. I think that CTF needs to also look at the different issues that they are
having and what is required of the e- learning program before going forward with it.
Background
The organization that I have chosen to use is the organization that I now work at. The
name of the organization that I am going to use within my course project is Charleston
Transitional Facility. This facility is a not-for-profit organization that provides homes and workshops to the developmentally disabled. CTF offers residential, developmental, vocational and an autism program. CTF owns and operates twenty-seven cila homes throughout the state of
Illinois including Olney, Homewood, Charleston, Champaign, Lincoln, South Suburbs and
Sumner.
CTF has many certifications including IDHS, IARF, United Way of Coles County and
Local Chambers of Commerce.
