Classroom Observation Analysis On Monday, March 4th, I had the pleasure of observing a kindergarten classroom taught by Victoria Young at Dutton Elementary in Caledonia, Michigan. I have done prior observations at this school, but have never observed a kindergarten classroom. it was eye-opening the curriculum that the students were taught. I also enjoyed getting to watch the students learn and grow and show off their skills. During the observation, I noticed that the classroom environment was very positive. the students showed respect towards the teacher and enthusiasm towards learning. This is something that can change with time and age. some of the students are excelling in the material that they are learning and some are lacking. This is where small groups come into play to help the students who are falling behind. There are also a few students who meet with a special education teacher throughout the day. Mrs Young did very well with her management strategies. these strategies seem to reflect a behavioral teaching method. She clearly emphasized her expectations during instructional time and used consistent reinforcement. She kept positive behavior with her students as well. When students were not following the expectations, warnings were given to the students. After a certain number of warnings, students began to lose privileges. The loss of privileges included missing out on some recess time or working on an activity that should have been completed prior while other students were having computer time. These management strategies and discipline procedures are effective. redirection was used with an emphasis on respect and discipline, involving warnings and loss of privileges. students reacted well to the management strategies and the discipline
