ASB is an associated student body that provides for the needs of students and creates great events that bring together all groups of students. Our ASB class has undergone plenty of changes over the course of the year in many positive ways. A substantial change was evident in the incorporation of commissions. The idea of teams had its benefits, but with new commissions ASB functions better, is much more efficient, and is much more organized than when teams was in use.
A team is described as “a group of people that comes together to achieve a common goal.” I believe that the concept of teams was intriguing but contained many flaws. The idea of teams had several positives and negatives with communication and cooperation. Cooperation was huge for teams, as prior to the beginning of ASB this year each team had a list of events that it would organize. My team, “Team A,” had multiple events scheduled to be organized, such as the Winter Formal Dance and Spring Fling Dance. Being within this team gave me the opportunity to work on something that I would have never worked on with being in the “Athletics Commission.” Also, since our teams were split up into random groups, people were able to work with people they would never work with before. In this short time, I noticed a change in participation, school spirit, and overall moral of the campus. One prime example of the growth in school spirit and participation was the “Battle of the City” game and Hoopcoming game. The Hoopcoming game was a great example of school spirit because even though we lost by over 30 points the students were still fired up about the game. I believe that much of the changes in school spirit can be attributed to the implications of the athletics, spirit, social media, and publicity commissions.
