Each year, the rate of people being homeless is increasing more and more. Without a place providing safety, security, and stability, these homeless people were often misled into wrong directions. On the other hand, some people take this situation as a main reason to want to be successful in life. I believe that being homeless carries a stigma for a person throughout their whole life. Since they have gone through this experience, they know what it feels like. They try to base their lives on bettering themselves from their previous homeless situation, however their past experiences are always with them. Homelessness carries a stigma for a person throughout their whole life. In text 2, it states that homeless people lack food, clothing, and medical treatments. In text 1 this is all proven in the author’s life. As Sedgwick was growing up, he watched how most of his family members lost their homes, jobs and families. At that time he hated them for their apparent weakness, but now after he has gotten homeless, his view towards them has changed. He has always carried a stigma for being homeless. In text 3, there are many evidences that being homeless carries a stigma for a person throughout their life. On page 257, the awareness that her parents are homeless wears on Jeannette's conscience. She is unable to satisfy her guilt without exposing her past life to her classmates and professors in college. On page 270, Jeannette is still unable to tell the truth about her past. Jeanette states the following, “I was convinced that if all these people found out about Mom and Dad and who I really was, it would be impossible for me to keep my job.” She is afraid that it will cost her job at the magazine. She tries to avoid any conversation about her parents and lies about them whenever she is questioned about
