In our current time of living, there has been much more focus on the movements of racism than ever before. Many have jumped on the bandwagon of racism, however it has now been pushed overboard and become in some ways absurd. We humans do a good job of avoiding common sense as well as a good middle ground on beliefs and opinions. I do believe there is still some racism in some areas against African Americans, but that there is also far less racism against African Americans than is portrayed by the media. We have to remember that even though colored Americans have been discriminated against in the past, that is not so much the case currently. This was the beginning of a process of people changing their ethics to include African Americans as equals. African Americans started fighting for the right to vote, and people were questioning how a massive military, fighting against human crimes, yet with a segregated military. Stephen Ambrose, World War II historian, has a quote that was used in the film Medal of Honor “The world's greatest democracy fighting the world's worst racist Hitler, with a segregated army” (S1, E3, 2018). Change is hard for many people to accept, and one of those things is racism. This period of fighting racism has been going on for decades, and although I do believe in many places it is overboard now, many places in America are still calling for change. Today our military acknowledges colored Americans as equals in our military with equal opportunities. Such is stated in the film Medal of Honor “Now those injustices are past, our military is among the most integrated institutions in America” (S1, E3,2018). Today we don’t just see positive changes in the military regarding racism, but in almost everything, including healthcare for colored people. We even see differences in healthcare today, according to Eliacin, J. “Most of the participants reported positive patient-provider relationships or noted that race does not play a role in their care” (3.2). This statement is evidence of all the progress the United States has made regarding racism. We as America have come so far regarding many aspects, including but not limited to racism, and it is important to remember that in the end color really doesn’t matter. We all come from different cultures, and certain races tend to have a theme or belief in their culture, which means we all will get something different from the same experience.
