Sickle cell anemia is the most common genetic mutation known to mankind. It causes blood cells to change shape to one resembling a sickle, whilst normal blood cells are round, like a doughnut. The shape change causes the blood cells to block the bloodstream, making it hard for oxygen to go to the organs.
