In today's society, people tend to prefer opinions that say what they already believe and voices that they disagree with. The article mentions many different cases related to the First Amendment. I thought the First Amendment was simply like the phrase “If I stand in front of the Meyer office and say let’s burn down the office”. It means I violate the First Amendment.” It is more complicated than that. Political speech isn’t the only type of speech that the courts have addressed. But he also mentions freedoms of the press, protest, assembly, and religion. Of course, they have some restrictions and exceptions, like burning a cross on a person's lawn is considered “speech”. Hayward’s article pulls out a recent survey that I think is very interesting.
