In political polarization, beliefs are moving beyond the center of attention and toward extreme ideologies. It happens when segments of society start to have progressively different opinions on political parties, party members, and their philosophies and programs. Despite their continued disagreement, the parties never again resorted to bloody factionalism as they had in the past. Conflicts were settled and compromise was common. Even genuine public support for third parties started to arise. Due to today's political division, politics is no longer played out in a genuine courtroom where respectable Republicans and polite Democrats debate, but rather as a developed conflict between violent Communists and extreme fascists. Due to the scarcity of available data, it may be challenging to investigate the state level of mass political polarization. Past studies on political polarization at the state level have not truly addressed state-level polarization. According to those studies, which focus mostly on spatial polarization, partisan voters are shifting from one area where people vote differently to another, which is why more counties in the US still support one party over another.
