Veterinary Technician Research Paper

If I am being completely honest, I never really knew what I wanted to do career wise after high school. That was until the end of my sophomore year when I finally had an idea, but I was stuck on two choices. The two choices are to either be a Veterinarian or a Veterinarian technician. Now some people get these mixed up or they just think that they are the same thing. However, they are actually two really different jobs. There are a bunch of very important factors and skills that go into each career. The salaries and education requirements are a lot different as well. A veterinarian or vet is an animal doctor. Veterinary technicians may work in settings such as animal hospitals, private veterinary clinics, zoos, kennels, horse farms, wildlife sanctuaries, shelters, and research labs. Most vet techs work with domestic animals. However, some of them work in settings that may involve treating exotic animals or endangered species. Vet techs may work with small animals such as dogs or cats at a small animal hospital. They might also work with large animals such as horses, cows, and sheep at a clinic for farm animals. Most of the time, vet techs who work with farm animals are required to travel to the farm, because these animals are treated on site. Some vet techs, though, will work in a setting that involves caring for both small and large animals. Vet techs are responsible for restraining an animal during examinations. They are also required to perform routine visit procedures. Vet techs may give injections, clean wounds, apply and change dressings, and clean teeth. They also often talk with the animal’s owner and write down the information in the animal file.
