73% of American high school students and 58% of middle school students don't get enough sleep each night. Schools start so early. Kids are sleep deprived and on top of that, most students have after school activities. School should start later in the day because kids can get better sleep, kids grades will be better, and kids won’t be at risk for health issues. The first reason school should start later in the day is because kids can get better sleep. Studies have found that kids don’t get the recommended amount of sleep. This study shows how over half of middle school students and the majority of high school students don’t get enough sleep each night. Not getting enough sleep can be harmful in the long run. Considering the alarming rate of students who don’t get enough sleep and how a student needs 9 hours of sleep, schools should not start so early to give kids quality time to sleep. The second reason schools should start later is because kids will get good grades. Evidence shows that kids will get better grades if they get better sleep.
