Can you imagine living in a place that your every move is being watch by the government? In George Orwell's book, 1984 he tells about a place that is completely controlled by the government. The party members/citizens are brainwashed, treated poorly, and watched by the government every day in the city of Oceania. Orwell shows many dystopian elements in 1984.
In the book 1984 by George Orwell, Winston Smith lives in a city that is very much a dystopia in the ways that Winston who is a party member is treated very unfairly compare to his friend O'Brien who is a Inner Party Member. Winston complains about how he can barely has enough grazer blades to shave while, O’Brien get wine and what ever else he wants. Winston has very little control to what he gets for clothes, food, and other other essentials. Which posed as an imaginary state figure that put fear in the citizens to listen to the party. They would put “We are watching you,” on their tvs reminding them no matter where they are someone is watching them and their every move. The party members were all brainwashed so they never would think to rebel or to fight back. Big Brothers motto was WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Big Brother is a dystopian element because it was the party’s way of controlling the members. The Party also doesn’t allow the member to have their own thoughts or choices. They can’t work where they want to or watch what they want to without the party’s permission. Winston loves Julie and the Party doesn’t allow them to date or interact because it is against the law.
