Children today are being exposed to advertising every day from TV commercials, to billboards, to magazines. Children today are being consumed and slightly overwhelmed with advertising as well.There are problems related to children being exposed to so much advertising. Advertising companies put a lot of money and such into these different advertisings. For example, as stated in “The Tricky Business in Advertising to Children” by Bruce Watson, the advertising companies in the U.S. alone spend an average of $17 billion on those commercials, billboards, magazines, etc. Also the average child watches 16,000 TV commercials a year.That's a lot and if children and teens are only spending their time watching commercials and trying and eating the foods that they see in them then that can contribute to why there are so many children and teen with obesity. …show more content…
According to the article, “Sneaky ways advertisers target kids” Advertisers know that the earlier the child learns about a brand, the more likely they will be to buy it later on (Youths also try to beg their parents to buy it for them). By making their parents think they don't spend enough time with them they can convince their parents to get it. Later on though parents start to become concerned because everything that they have bought for their children can effect them in health and decision making or even poor impulse control.
