Stories about the afterlife are always fun. It’s a tried and true concept that seems to resonate with the mainstream audience. There have been successful films like DEFENDING YOUR LIFE, HEAVEN CAN WAIT, OH, GOD, AND GHOST. AFTER THE AFTER LIFE combines elements from some of these films.

However, be careful with jokes, as they can feel forced and sound un-natural.
The best comedy is actually organic from the character – their flaws being exaggerated. For example, when Joey gives out his business card, it’s funny. It’s organic of his character. Snot from the nose is visual, but a bit more directed at a younger, immature audience.
The jokes about the “open door” policy and pulling the plug sounds more contrived vs. natural. The life “odds” jokes feel more exaggerated and fit with a certain style of comedy. The judge’s dialogue about being dead has a certain charming rhythm and “catch-22” style humor.
Overall, the jokes could be a bit more sophisticated. It’s a artistic choice. Just make sure the humor style is consistent throughout. LIAR, LIAR is a good example of using physical and visual humor, but also the humor came naturally from the main character.
