Research Question:
How effective can different Antacids be at counteracting acid?
Hypothesis:
All of the Antacids will be able to neutralize the acid to some extent, but Maalox will be able to neutralize the most acid, as it has better absorption properties and good sodium levels, helpful for heartburn and indigestion.

Antacid Lab:
Materials:
• 3 beakers
• Water (600 ml)
• Hydrochloric Acid (60ml)
• 3liquid antacid brands- Eno, Maalox and 1 other antacid.
(Own 3 antacids can be used but must be liquid form, no tablets)
• 1 Burette (used to measure amount of ml)
• 1 Universal Indicator
• 1 stirring rod
• 3 labels
• 1 pen
• Universal indicator strips ( 3 strips)
• 1 measuring spoon …show more content…
Why is it manipulated?
(Independent) The antacid brand/ the antacid used: (4) Different antacids will be used to test the effectiveness of neutralization of acids, using antacids. So that data can be accurate/ data can be collected and can be analyzed, to see which antacid was the most effective.
(Dependent) Amount of acid needed to neutralize antacid: Acid volumes will be same in all antacid beakers/ antacids. If the acid volumes differ, the ml needed to make the pH 7 will be inconsistent.
(Control) Liquid quantity of acid: Each antacid will be put into 20ml of acid. So that there will be a fair amount of acid to be diluted in the water, for proper results.
(Control) Amount of water in beaker: Each antacid will be diluted into 200 ml of water. To make it a fair test/ to test how many ml's it takes for the antacid to be effective during heartburn/indigestion.
(Control) Universal Indicator: Each antacid will be tested with the same color of universal indicator strips. To make sure that each antacid is measured accurately.
Antacid Lab:
Method:
1. Fill the 3 beakers with 200 ml of water in each.
2. Use the Pen and the sticky labels to label the antacid brand on the 4 different
