One reason pigs are intelligent is because they can be trained. They are so smart that they can operate things like levers and switches. They learn how to do this for different reasons but a couple are to get food or to adjust the temperature. Pigs can also learn to maneuver the latch from their pens when they want to free themselves to get out. In addition, pigs can use their snouts to operate joy sticks. Have you ever seen a dancing pig? Pigs can dance or hold a baton in their mouths. But for pigs to achieve these amazing feats, they must be properly trained.

Humans communicate by speaking or using sign language. Pigs communicate with each other too. They do so by grunting. It might sound silly, but their grunts can have different meanings. “Ahhhh ahhhh ahhh- is a familial greeting. It means that they see you as family. Ooof (while usually blowing air)- usually means annoyed, but can mean nervousness. Aroooooo- Means feed me NOW! Loud, sharp groinking bark: I’m threatened and may attack.” (Mini Pig Info, 2015)
Lastly, pigs are like dogs. They are loyal but also mischievous and can be unruly. They can also, like many dogs, be taught to sit on command. Pigs can walk on a leash too. Even though they should be taught, pigs can be house broken. If you have no one to watch your pig, why not take it with you! Pigs enjoy car rides while sometimes sticking their head out the window. Much like members from the canine family. As has been noted, they also like to dig in the dirt with their snouts or feet. Pigs love the smells of smelly food, mud, dirt or really anything!
