Across the world, people of all races and ages are being forced to work against their will, often under a treat of violence. Although slavery is commonly known to be a thing of the past, human trafficking has generated billions of dollars in profits by coercing and trapping people into horrific situations by using acts of violence, deception, threats, debt bondage, and manipulation. The U.S Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is the global leader to fight against modern day slavery. The value that Homeland Security places on human trafficking is by first combating and also identifying the victims. Developing awareness of human trafficking can help future rescue victims and bring perpetrators to justice. Survivors play a significant role in understanding the awareness of human trafficking, informing policy, and improving the delivery when identified. These meaningful engagements with victims from all aspects will help with implementation, development, and evaluation to develop a more efficient network. Homeland Security services should be accessible for trafficked victims regardless of color, disability, religion or national origin. Victim services help promote justice and healing for the victim and empower them to participate in bringing traffickers to justice for crimes.
