Space exploration has been a dream of many people for many years. Mankind has been on countless missions to send people into space and onto the Moon. Where will we send people next you may ask? Mars; it is an amazing planet. It is the second smallest in our solar system, red, empty, and dry. Or so we thought until just recently when NASA discovered and officially announced flowing water on the Red Planet.
“What we thought we knew about water on Mars is constantly being put to the test," said Michael Meyer, lead scientist for NASA's Mars Exploration Program at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "It's clear that the Mars of billions of years ago more closely resembled Earth than it does today. Our challenge is to figure out how this more clement Mars was even possible, and what happened to that wetter Mars." So if there is flowing water on Mars does that mean that extraterrestrial life does, in fact exist (or had once existed)? Well, maybe. On the subject of Martians, NASA said this, ¨If "Martians" ever existed, they wouldn't be "little green men" as we might think. There was probably not enough water on Mars for anything but very …show more content…
Well, ¨NASA is developing the capabilities needed to send humans to an asteroid by 2025 and Mars in the 2030s. Mars is a rich destination for scientific discovery and robotic and human exploration as we expand our presence into the solar system. Its formation and evolution are comparable to Earth, helping us learn more about our own planet’s history and future. Mars had conditions suitable for life in its past. Future exploration could uncover evidence of life, answering one of the fundamental mysteries of the cosmos (Daines).¨ Mars would be the easiest planet to travel to, which is why scientists agree that Mars would be a great place to start human colonization across the galaxy. Mars is the closest
