War is a very strange thing. There are many controversies about it. TV shows, movies, books, and even toys are being included in the mass culture that is the military. One of the main controversies of war is the use of drones. As one military colonel puts it, “Wars are a human phenomenon, arising from human needs for human purposes. This makes human participation at some level critical, or the entire exercise becomes pointless” (Col. Adams). He is not wrong. To the contrary, there are many other arguments. One of the strongest oppositions is that the participation of robots can save lives. Robots do not have to necessarily replace humans on the front line. They can be used to support humans, or even save them. Other new technologies can save lives as well, such as the new “Iron Man” armor that is in development, as well as the XSTAT Rapid Hemostasis System, which can actually heal wounds on contact. These technologies are not …show more content…
Today, the technology that is considered “futuristic”, meaning it will be a very long time before the technology will become available, will be available very soon. In the 90’s, the people that believed in lasers also believed in aliens and wore tin hats when they go to sleep. Today, lasers are expected to be widely present in warfare in 2035. These weapons can be tuned to literal laser-point accuracy. It will be able to shoot farther than any non-guided ballistic we have in the entire U.S. Arsenal. This allows pinpoint strikes on important targets from unimaginable distances. This works by using a “30-KW infrared solid-state laser that’s already been used to destroy unmanned aerial and naval vehicles” (Vincent Yourhighness), which means it condenses light rays using infrared radiation that is able to be used to burn, scar, or melt anything touched by the
