Not everything about veganism is perfect for the environment or people. Many times land that is used for livestock production is not suitable for growing crops, but may work perfectly for grazing livestock, stated Allison Eck from PBS. She stated that it may not have correct nutrients or soil type for planting crops. Using this land for a different purpose that it would work for would help the economy, versus not using it because it couldn’t be used for planting, even if it isn’t the most efficient way. There may also be some plants that do have a harmful trace in the environment. For example, lettuce might be worse for the environment on a calorie-for-calorie basis compared to bacon, but three slices of bacon are equivalent to almost three heads of lettuce, told Ethan Wolff-Mann with Time Magazine. Lettuce produces three times more greenhouse gas emissions than bacon. Additionally, he stated that the USDA-recommended diet would raise greenhouse gases 38% verse the standard American meaty diet. This is due to the diet’s high seafood portion, which is very environmentally harmful for greenhouse gas emissions. Although there are problems with veganism, the benefits outweigh the
