Women in combat may sound like a good idea,but when you think about it logistically,you can find that there are many flaws that the idea has. According to the United States Government Accountability Office(the department in charge of evaluating and auditing various departments throughout the U.S government),the U.S military is currently facing a shortage of maintenance workers, where the Navy reported that the years 2011 to 2014, only 28% of their machinery,equipment and vehicles were repaired. The Marine Corps face similar problems,suffering from an 80% shortage of vehicles and planes that are needed for combat and training. The reason why I’m telling you these facts is because it raises the question,if we can not support our current servicemen,how …show more content…
The physical differences between women and men are astronomical, which was observed by the British Armed Forces that found that only 1 out of 100 women in their ranks were physically fit and had the ability to fight adequately. Another study conducted by the National Center For Biotechnology Information, indicated that women tend to have lower muscle capacity in their upper body. These biological traits might be a setback in a battle situation,where soldiers might be supporting up to 100 pounds in the upper body area. Some military professionals cite their worries when it come towards the physical load,claiming the result of combat procedures lead out to a high rate of injury towards women. Proponents of barring women by serving in combat cite psychological differences between male and females that might affect them in a combat situation or after. The American Psychological Association have analyzed how women were affected by the war and have found critical evidence when examining that women have a higher risk of PTSD and depression after combat,a crippling mental disease that affect thousands of veterans.
