Woman Bathing by Mary Cassatt was created during the years of 1890 and 1891. This piece is an example of a color aquatint. Its dimensions are 364 x 269 mm. I consider this piece to be an example of Japonisme because of the main focus in the artwork, a woman. Japonisme was known to contain images of women. The artwork was meant to beautify femininity. Japonisme was also known to use different angles in order to form its pieces. Cassatt depicts the different angles by changing the shape of the cabinet as the painting nears the bottom. She also uses the pitcher as a vantage point. After studying her pieces, I have noticed that this pitcher appears in many of Cassatt’s works. This painting was created in the late nineteenth century. During this time, the depictions of nude women were becoming more and more popular (About this Artwork, 1). At this time in history, the importance of bathing became popular, as well. I believe that this allows the world to coincide. Although I believe that all cultures are different, I believe that they all need to be unified in some sort of way. The technological advances such as: Facebook and Pinterest allow us to learn about different cultures and tendencies. An example of a modern artwork expressed as a hybrid is Abundance by Marcela Moujan. This piece is composed of mixed media on a canvas. Its dimensions are 205 x 235 cm. Even though she expresses her inner Latina, her drawings also depict Japanese flowers (Hybridization, 1). Every day, artists combine characteristics in order to create a unified piece. I believe that this is an important component of art because it gives us a wide variety of options and allows us to fully express
