To what extent did Australian forces achieve their objectives in the Vietnam War?
In the Vietnam war, Australia’s involvement started in 1962, this grew from a group of military advisors giving support to the Americans of jungle warfare tactics to around 7,000 troops when the Menzies government decided in 1965 to up their support to America as they would call upon them for help if needed. Australia’s involvement in the war were a mix of success and failure. Due to their World war ll jungle warfare they were very experienced and had successful military strategies. The goals of Australia in the Vietnam war was to support the Americans and to rid communism out of Vietnam, overall this was a failure but Australia did play an important role in the war.
The two sides in the Vietnam war were North and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was mainly communism and western forces were scared as this communist force was spreading throughout Asia and Russia. America believed in the domino theory and that if Vietnam fell into communist hands countries surrounding it would too.
