My question is whether using a screen before bed will affect your REM sleep. Before answering this, I need to know what REM is, what artificial sunlight is, what blue light is, and how it’s harmful. REM is one of the many stages of sleep, that comes in cycles - normally 4-5. This stage of sleep is normally when dreams happen. Insufficient REM sleep can result in headaches, memory loss, and cardiovascular disease.

Artificial sunlight normally comes from backlit devices, like iPhones and laptops. Almost always, our brain will think that this light is sunlight, signaling it to stay awake. Sometimes, backlit devices can emit blue light, which is the worst kind of light that a device can emit.
