We just arrived from our amazing expedition through the newly purchased Louisiana Territory that was commissioned by President Jefferson. The group was called the Corps. of Discovery was led by two great captains, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Our arrival took us 2 years and 4 months long to get to the Pacific Ocean and back. Our crew set out on this journey to find out if there was a Northwest Passage, to establish good relations with the Native American tribes and announce that their territory was the US’s, and collect any new plants, lands or animals. We discovered a lot of things on the expedition, we couldn’t believe our eyes. The Blackfoot tribe were normadic because they were always chasing herds of Buffalo, and because animals ran away, but buffalo was their main food, the women made a diet out of buffalo meat, berries, and pemmican. The Black feet mainly live in the Great Plains region, and their homes were teepees made out of wooden poles, and animal skin that was shaped into a cone. The reason they made their homes like that is because the teepee was made to be quickly set up and dismantled. The Blackfoot believed in spirits and gods, and they believed in a supernatural being called Napi, but their main god was the sun. The tribe had an interesting object called a prayer stick and they used these sticks to make offerings and petitions to the spirit world. Now lets talk about the two best captains of the expedition, Lewis and Clark. Lewis was born for this mission, he had skills that were useful on the trip like knowing how to hunt, he was a great woodsmen, and he knew how to make herbal medicines. Lewis was courageous and full of bravery and that is what helped us get back home successfully and safely. Clark was amazing too, and his skills are that he was a mapmaker, he knew about how to camp, and he was an excellent land navigator. His leadership and knowledge of land navigation is what helped us
