In bless me ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, Antonio’s dream begins with his brothers, who are going to Rosie’s place. The three brothers cause a temptation to Antonio; he wants more knowledge, but that would cause him the lost of his innocence. In this dream the author conveys the purpose of growing up and gaining knowledge leads up to the loss of innocence. In the first paragraphs, the author explains more about Rosie’s place, which in this dream symbolizes knowledge. If he enters many of his questions would be answered, gaining the knowledge he wants. Antonio does not dare to enter because he is “to be a priest”(74). Anaya’s purpose here is to show that he doesn’t want to lose his innocence, he needs to be someone of good for his mother.
