The Glass Castle is a memoir written by Jeannette Walls, about her life. In this book she talks about what her life was like, and after reading it her life was not a completely happy one. Her chapters can cover a span of days,weeks, and even months. The first chapter of the book starts with her seeing her homeless mom while on the way to a party.

Most normal families don’t let their three year old make their own food. In the process of making her own food, Jeannette was burned severely, “A doctor with silver hair and black-rimmed glasses led my mother out of the room. As they left, I heard him telling her that it was very serious… The doctors said I was lucky to be alive.” (10)
Her story also has good parts in the bad, she got to see many more places than most people, she also learned many valuable life lessons. I think that the most valuable life lesson the Jeannette learned that others might not have the opportunity to learn wasn't from being taught but rather from having to survive. Jeannette and her siblings had to learn not to rely on anybody, but themselves.
