A border fence would wreak havoc on the jaguar population. The implementing of a border fence would result in a decrease of the jaguar population. This is due to the jaguars being cut off from a source of food because of the newly implemented border fence; the area in which the jaguars obtain their food needed for survival is fenced off. In other words, the jaguars are prevented from getting proper nutrition, which inevitably leads to their deaths and population decrease. Also, the border fence blocks the paths that the jaguars want to use. These paths could have possible mates for the jaguars, and the new border fence would disallow any reproduction, as the paths are blocked. Thus, less jaguar reproduction results in a decrease of the jaguar population. Furthermore, the implementing of a border fence reduces the amount of space in a territory which also limits the size of the jaguar population. Plus, the border fence would prohibit the jaguars from recovering their numbers, as their movement and reproduction is greatly limited. Therefore, the border fence terribly affects the jaguar populations. …show more content…
Since there would be less jaguars (predators) than other small animals (prey), there would be a decrease in biodiversity. Because the jaguar population would be less diverse, the jaguar populations would have a smaller gene pool, which would then lead to genetic drift. Thereafter, the jaguar population would be gone. Additionally, this new border fence would trap the jaguars and hinder their movement. Therefore, this allows for stricter control of the ecosystem, which means that the ecosystem would not develop naturally. This would also play a role in the biodiversity of the ecosystem. Consequently, it can be said that the border fence has disastrous effects on the jaguar
