The writer Brain Capps wanted to return to his roots where his grandfather let him shoot a .410 shotgun that really set the pace for his future in the firearm industry. So he decided to build a "slug gun" for hunting so he wanted it to have a rifled barrel and be light weight to trek long distances however, he was on a budget and wanted to stay cheap as possible.

He seems to have luck finding a cheap used shotgun being a Ross 12 gauge. His fellow gun smith and him agreed that the fit was all wrong and some modifications or upgrades needed to be made. The first issue they addressed was the length of pull (LOP), which is determined as the distance from the center of the trigger to the butt plate or pad. He stated the number of problems associated with the incorrect LOP to include less managebale recoil and incorrect shot placement to name a few. The pitch is the angle of the butt of stock to the barrel which zero pitch accomadates most shooters. The comb height should allow the shooter to have proper sight alignement you can raise or lower depending on type of optic used as well as size of the shooter.
