Cab Calloway
Cab Calloway was born on December 25, 1907 in Rochester, New York. On November 18, 1994 Cab Calloway past away from a stroke that he had six months earlier. Cab dies in Wilmington, Delaware. Cab Calloway was known as the “Hi DE Ho” man. Cab Calloway grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. Then he moved to Chicago to study law at Crane Univesity, but still was big into music. Cab Calloway took over his band in Chicago in 1928. His biggest hit was “Minnie the Moocher” which happened in 1931. However this song was created by him and was played in the Cab Calloway band in 1929. Calloway wasn’t just big into music he was an actor between the 1930’s and 1950’s. In 1925 Cab Calloway sister Blanch help him become famous for getting him in the musical “Plantations Days”. After every night Cab Calloway would be playing at nightclubs. Then he finally took over the band Alabamians in 1928. Then in 1929 he created the Cab Calloway band. Music was a passion for Cab Calloway so when he went to college he finally realized that the study of law wasn’t for him and that music was his thing. Once he started making music and being in musicals he started to appear in some movies. Some films that are called The Singing Kid (1936) and Stormy Weather (1943). In 1934 Calloway made his first European tour which would mark the first of many for Calloway.
