Muntz (Carl and Ellie’s idol), Doug (the talking alpha dog) and Kevin (a snipe, a rare breed of animals). Carl Fredrickson has lived his life alone in his house, pressured to go to Shady Oaks, the retirement home and leave his belongings and the house behind. He wishes to stay in the house until he dies mourning over the loss of his wife and his best friend Ellie. I believe that Carl believes Russell is his son or grandson because his child did die before he was even born, which might be a similar feeling for Russell. At first, Carl did feel annoyed of the scout bothering him but throughout this story, they grew to help and support each other, as well as Russell who was determined to get his badge to impress his folks. Russell was angry at Carl at the climax point, since Carl had abandoned Kevin, which was the scene where Carl decided to start acting like a father to Russell.
