The two starts to clash during poker night. For poker night, Stanley invites his friends Mitch, Pablo, and Steve to play poker with him while Blanche and Stella had a girls night. When Blanche returns, she starts to talk to Mitch and distracts him from the poker game. Stanley got angry because Blanche distracts Mitch, and also because she turns on the radio after he turns it off. Stanley gets so angry that, “He crosses to the small white radio and snatches it of the table. With a shouted oath, he tosses the instrument out the window” (62). This behavior shows Stanley’s anger problems. Additionally, it shows how his anger can lead him to do harmful things to people. For example, how he physically assaults his wife, Stella.
Blanche did not understand why Stella went back to her husband after he hit her. As southern belle, Blanche did not think that is how a man is suppose to a woman; they should be a gentleman. It is possible that Stella returns to Stanley is because he’s the only person she has. Stanley is the provider for the family and she did not want to be homeless with a newborn on the way. Stella doesn't have the family property to back to so she has to deal with Stanley’s abusive nature. That is something Stanley can do for Stella that Blanche can not
