My enthusiasm for nursing is shown in my A level subjects. Studying Sociology has taught me how to view nursing in an ethical manner, allowing me to consider all aspects of healthcare and integrate sociological concepts into practice. Studying research methods allowed me to explore any social issues regarding patients in order to identify any social causation for health problems. Understanding a patient’s background is significant to establish a trusting relationship and ultimately produce a health care plan tailored for their needs.

The summer school was a rare opportunity to explore hospital surroundings and see a nurse’s day in practice, for example we learnt how to set up drips and blood transfusions. This exposed me to the intense hospital environment where we, as a team, had to deliver effective care to the ‘patient’ using minimal information given. The taster day gave me a hands-on experience of the equipment a nurse uses daily and also an insight into what studying nursing would be like at university, making me certain that this career pathway is right for
