Some people have the brains and others have the athleticism. The ones who are athletic discover it from early on in life. They play competitive sports and practice all the time to become better than they were yesterday. On average, this works out great because they get scholarships for participating in a sport at their college they are representing. But various people are saying that the scholarships are not enough. They say that the athletes should also be paid on the side, but I say that no, they should not be paid personally because they are well taken care of (with clothes, room, and board), colleges would not be able to afford it, and it would not drive them to continue their career professionally.

Statistics prove that on average, only 7% of students get the opportunity to play their chosen sport in college (listland, “Top 10 Reasons College Athletes Should Not Get Paid”). This shows that most kids who think they will get a scholarship will not. For those who do, it should be a considered a blessing. If they were paid, they would not enjoy it for just the game, but will learn to dislike it because it is equivalent to a job. Not getting paid should be a lesser level, compared to actually getting paid. If the athletes got the experience of what being paid is, they would not have the next level to strive for. The ones who love the game play it in college, but the ones who are serious about it want to play it
