Frederick Douglass was a great example of this. He was a slave but had a desire to be free. While growing up in a slave's life, jumping from one slaveholder to another Frederick Douglass never knew anything else other than slavery. When he grew up he developed the idea of wanting to stand up and create an equal place for everyone including women and black repressed people. Similar to Frederick Douglass, a david walker was also a slave but was free. He displayed a physical force towards slavery which is different than Frederick Douglass was was a peaceful fighter. David Walker wanted to like so many other for himself and his brothers to be free. This is also an example of a shift in values. For so long African Americans would just accept that their only fate was slavery or death but, now those were not the only two options they were willing to have. Both Frederick Douglass and David Walker were slaves who had decided that they were ready to fight. They were ready to contradict that values that the only place for them was in the fields or a grave. As they started to rebel the African American slaves realized that they weren't alone.
