Europeans had a different type of relationship with the Ottoman Empire than I would have expected before taking this class. Elegant places such as Venice and Versailles for example wanted alliances with the Ottomans, and also had every intent on being respectful and not insulting the Ottomans. Most relationships between countries had been similar at this time, in the sense that countries were transforming into the independent and elegant countries that they are today. New things such as coffee and suits had been introduced, and the thought of different items had been an appeal for Europeans. There was a trading center implemented by Europe and the Levant, and Venice had made trade agreements with La Porta. This is important to note because it was a major trade route, and was not very close like other places to trade with. In addition, these leaders of Venice as learned in class were in trade with the Ottoman Sultans. A Sultan, in the Ottoman Empire, was a ruler of their Empire, and their land. He was the head of the government there, and ran about every part of the Ottoman government. In addition to Venice, the Ottomans extended trading rights to many other European countries. This was important because it would broaden their interests because each country had produced something unique, unlike the other. Also, it got the Ottoman goods and customs spread across Europe so their Empire would spread outside of Venice. They saw how interested Europeans were and how popular trade was among European nations so it would not only increase the economics for these countries such as France, England, and Holland, but it would also help themselves out.
