Each branch of government was given a set of powers by our founding fathers, but checks and balances keep those branches from becoming too powerful from one another within the system. However, the individual powers that each branch holds, differ in numerous of ways and those differences is what makes a branch more powerful than the other. Many people have the impression that the judicial or executive branch are the most powerful branch, but the legislative branch is where most of the powers lie within the government.
The legislative branch is the most powerful branch of government, because its main purpose is to create laws. Without the power to create laws, our country would not have any means of regulations to protect us, the people, from what is just or unjust. Nor would it give us opportunities government has to offer for the people. The legislative branch’s powers, Congress, are outlined by the Constitution. Congress is divided into two houses- the Senate and House of Representatives. There are 435 members within the House of Representatives from all 50 states and each state has its own form of legislature similar to the federal legislative branch. The Senate on the other hand, has 100 members- 2 senators selected from each state. Knowing that the legislative branch has members from all over the country, increases its powers as a branch,

It can create laws, change existing ones and carry out enumerated powers. The legislative branch can levy taxes, regulate money spent with other countries and ourselves. It has the power to raise an army, actually declare war and impeach the president. However, what truly makes this branch powerful is the House of Representatives and Senate, because it has members, we’ve selected/chosen from all 50 states to represent the masses.
