If everyone I speak to in the unit lies to me about an upcoming PT test, and I get told last minute I would feel betrayed. Not only that but I would also not be mentally prepared to take the test and spend most of the time leading up to it thinking of all the people who lied to me. There is a plethora of negatives that would become evident if everyone within the unit lied. So to me I believe that maintaining a code of honesty and integrity within the unit is vital to mission success. Another simple example of being able to trust people in my unit, is if I were to get shot. My life is literally in the hands of who is next to me. They are more looked upon to set the examples and uphold the values of the Army, as well as giving guidance to their subordinates. Core values are defined as things that we find to be the most important aspects of who we are and how we treat others. In workplace leadership, our core beliefs about people and how we treat them will impact how they are managed on a day-to-day basis. It can also be used in reference to an act of integrity, or an act of the latter. If an NCO denies the right to counsel or ability to utilize the chain of command, that can be considered as a compromise of integrity. Another example of compromising integrity within the unit could be fraternizing with NCO’s. Now it is understood that the Army is supposed to be a family, but it has been deemed unacceptable to be in a sense on a personal basis with NCO’s to an inappropriate extent. In order to avoid such degradations of integrity is the reason why we have policies in effect that keep us in a sense “at bay”.
