In the poem “Casey at Bat” and the story “David and Goliath”, a comparison of David and Casey shows differences and similarities. The first similarity between these two boys were that they both had confidence before stepping in the path of their opponents. In the poem “Casey at Bat”, the poem states that Casey maybe had a little too much confidence as he stepped in front of the pitcher and didn’t swing for a strike because it “was not his style”. In the poem “David and Goliath”, David walked right up to Goliath and spoke with confidence about how God would help him to win his battle even though he was ten times smaller than Goliath. The second way that these two guys are different are the ways and tactics they use in front of their opponents. In “Casey at Bat”, Casey wanted to wait until the very last pitch to “save” the game. In the poem it even states that the crowd thought Casey would save the game. In “David and Goliath”, David had one shot and he knew it so he went right into kill Goliath. David used more of a dive-right-in tactic while Casey tried to look like a hero and waited until the last pitch to strike. The third way that these two guys are different is from their differing personalities. Casey is a very vivid and more cocky character than David is. David is more quiet and kept to himself, but does have a lot of talent inside of him. In the poem you can see Casey’s personality come out when he says that the first pitch was “not his style”. In David and Goliath, David says that he trusts God and he just wants the war to end. He did end the war when he trusted God and defeated
