The African people managed several empires of their own before the British came. All of which traded with neighboring countries and had sufficient food support for the most part. Their cities had stone temples and walls which have lasted to this day. Africa was a much safer and happier place prior to British rule. “Ancient Ghana was an extremely complex empire. It possessed many of the characteristics of powerful nations today. Wealth based on trade, sufficient food to feed its people, income derived from taxes, social organization that ensured justice and efficient political control, a strong army with advanced weapons, and a foreign policy that that lead to peace and cooperation with other people.“ (Document 3).
