In the early nineteenth century, Americans had sought to resolve their political disputes through compromise. These compromises were used to resolve issues without violence. Slowly compromise did not seem to be a resolution to some of the people such as some southerners. The South had become violent trying to keep their slaves. The south had wanted to keep their slaves to have a bigger representation in the House of Representatives. The South also wanted to keep their slaves because they worked with little or no pay. So you can see why compromise didn’t seem to be much of a solution to them.
