When you think of treatments for mental patients do you think good? Or bad? Do you think about people who were treated with disrespect because they were different? Do we really even know what went on in hospitals back then? In the 1800s, nothing was perfect or getting cured. Nothing but abuses and death being caused from people believing that some people were crazy and insane.
In the 1800s, when you were diagnosed with mental illness you were to be treated different. People saw you as a crazy person who needed to be put in a hospital or mental institutions.Some blamed it on witchcraft and demonic possession and mental ill people were sent to asylums. Hot sheets would be wrapped around them as well if nothing quite worked. Anything to due with warmth was to help people who had insomnia. Now, cold was used for patients who had manic depressive which was showing of excitement. Cold showers would slow down the blood flow of the brain which decreased physical and mental activity.
