A study done at Youngstown University showed that uniforms improved attendance and graduation rates while decreasing suspension rates. This is because of fewer students being discriminated for what they are wearing, and students feel more secure about their clothes. There will be less bullying and peer pressure for schools that enforce dress codes because students will not be teasing each other because of their clothes. A bulletin from the National Secondary School Principals stated that when all the students are wearing the same clothes, they are less concerned about how they look and “they can concentrate on their schoolwork”(ProCon). Dress codes can improve students’ school environment which non-dress code schools could never do. Lastly, students will also be focusing more on their education and not their clothes.
In conclusion, dress codes are important for the education of students. A dress code is a set of rules, usually written and posted, specifying the required manner of dress at a school. Dress codes were made to prevent violence and improve students confidence. Continuing on, dress codes help prevent gang colors and insignia to ensure the students’ safety and gives students confidence because they do not worry as much about what they are wearing to school.
