Arts and Entertainment 1950s
The 1950’s was the decade right after America survived the Great Depression. Americans were ready for a dramatic change to come in their lives. Some moved across the country just for a change of scenery. As Americans were moving across the country new places raised including chain restaurants, malls, and movie theaters.Americans created a chain reaction of many new businesses and jobs, the work week, standards, behavior, schools, shopping centers, transportation, and a new look on family structure. All these new ideas and changes led to a very independent, responsible, and a very imaginative decade of people (Encyclopedia.com.)

People were just switching from radios to tv’s in the 50’s. Televisions caused group gatherings to watch a big game and for families to sit together by the tv to watch a game show like The Price is Right. Sports like baseball were also now being streamed on Television. Also around this time the shows were just now being produced in color. Other popular shows included the The Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand, The Today Show, and I love Lucy. (Reference.com)
The music in the 50s was either played on a turntable (record player), a radio, or on the television. The genres of music that were really popular in the 50s was rock, jazz, gospel, RnB, pop music. Some of the star singers were Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chuck Berry. This decade was marked with many top hits that are still heard today. “The end of the decade is marked by tragedy as a February 1959 plane crash takes the lives of rock and roll stars Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens.”
