Scenario: You have worked at this organization for over 10 years and feel totally unappreciated. You have not received a promotion or pay raise in over 5 years, and you work long days and typically take work home with you to stay caught up. Your supervisor—who you despise because of the way he treats you and because he does not authorize any promotion or raise, whereas other departments do—climbs the staircase in front of your cubicle every day to get to his office. This particular supervisor has been with the organization for over 30 years and can essentially retire at any time, but he chooses to continue to work. I would talk to my supervisor, if that didn’t get me the results or the rewards I thought I deserved then I would go to Human Resources for guidance, to find out what rights I have and how to handle the situation, or the supervisor’s boss to discuss his behavior and treatment of his direct reports. The personal feelings the employee obviously harbored for the supervisor clouded their judgment tremendously. It’s hard to tell from the information given but it almost seems as if the employee was so disheartened that he no longer cared about the company or anyone else and if that is the case then it is best that they are no longer with the company. I recently had an experience with my direct supervisor that ended in termination, not because I put the company or anyone in it in harm’s way, it was simply not agreeing with a decision that was made which directly affected my employees. I had no disciplinary actions against me, was doing well as a manager for my team. I received nothing but compliments from others for the work I did for my team. I accepted the low salary that was given to me, I found out that I made less than one of my direct reports but I never made waves. My manager didn’t seem to like opposition to anything he did or decided which in my opinion is in itself harmful to the company. I think my termination in this case was based around personal feelings and that is what ties the
