There has probably been more energy spent on debating the difference, advantages and limitations between qualitative and quantitative research methods, it can be said that this issue has been debated to death with many spending years proving which methods is the best.
Qualitative and quantitative researches are the two basic research categories which are used in psychology, with both these type of research having advantages and best limitations to their use in researching.

The strengths of this research is that close researcher involvement means that the researcher gains an insider’s view of the field, this also help the research see what they have missed, uses a more descriptive, narrative style which benefits to the practitioner ash they could turn to qualitative reports in order to examine forms of knowledge that might otherwise be unavailable to gain a new insight (Burns, 2000)
Examples of qualitative research is Jane Goodall’s study of mountain gorillas involved her living among the gorillas, trying to become an accepted part of their environment, and through observational techniques trying to understand their behaviours.
There is distinctive difference between these two methods, qualitative research was develop to explore the behaviour of a group were as quantitative research explores the behaviour though questionaries. People still have some confusion, in some areas of research these distinctions lead to arguments over whether the quantitative type of research is ‘hard’, rigorous’ credible and scientific, as qualitative encounters if the data is sensitive nuanced detailed and contextual’.
Some similarities between these researches fields are both field can use testing
