(The Discussion of Hasty Decisions in Romeo and Juliet)
The story Romeo and Juliet, there were so many different decisions that were not as thought out as you would think it would be. Some scenes seem so ridiculously underthought that you just want to scream to the characters. That’s the idea that Shakespeare was going for, anyways. Some scenes include the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, the suicide scene of the two lovers, and the fight/killing scene between Romeo and Tybalt. Each scene was completely pressed and abrupt of the young lovers.
For instance, when the two companions were settled on the balcony and spoke of marriage for the first time. The audience was, to say the least, shocked. Most were either expecting the words from Romeo or not expecting them at all. Juliet says to Romeo in Act 2:2, “ Three words, dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If that thy bent of love be honorable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, by one that I’ll procure to come to thee, where and what time thou wilt perform the rite; and all my fortunes at thy foot …show more content…
It is their absolute worst mistake in this entire play. Juliet takes the potion and falls into her deep sleep, Romeo hears of her “death” and comes running to see if it’s really true. Romeo gathers a poison and goes to the Capulet Tomb. He sees Juliet lying on the slab. In all of his greif and confusion, he drinks the poison that leads to his death. If his death wasn’t enough, Juliet wakes up and kills herself with Romeo’s sword. This is by far the worst and most hurried decision made by the couple. As said by Juliet in Act 5:3, “Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.” This is much different than Romeo’s speech.
