Describe a successful change which has occurred in your practicum setting or in your workplace. A successful change we recently experienced at our organization is switching to an electronic medical record, EPIC. The change did not happen overnight. Many stakeholders were involved in the planning phase. Once a date was announced for the go live, clinical managers selected super users, who received additional training and who were also extra staff during the go live process. There was a lot of frustration from staff during the training process, as the new electronic medical record meant a change in the workflow of staff. Nursing staff described feeling that EPIC would take them away from the bedside. During go live, units were packed with extra staff and subject matter experts. Super users wore colored vests to help distinguish them from staff. The extra staff were available for about a month after go live. Additionally, both physicians and nurses from various areas were pulled from the floor to commit to a two year planning and implementation period. During the planning phase, not only did these staff members attend various meetings to discuss what needed to be incorporated to an electronic medical record, but several additional nurses attended meetings where they were able to view what the new electronic medical record was going to look like and suggest changes prior to going live. Also, during go live, if something did not work as we expected it to, they could report a needed change. Being able to express any concerns during the go live assisted with some transition, because nursing staff felt they had some ownership with the new electronic medical
