Back in the late 60’s, everyone avoided the mainstream. After WWII, people started standing out from what was popular and avoiding society’s standards. Television was the most popular medium for entertainment, and women started working. There was a sense of falling apart from what other people wanted and going you own way. We were no longer in the age of doing what we were told, go out and make something of yourself, make a difference. People would riot in the streets and make a big deal out of being free and claiming their rights, which hadn’t really been done since the American Revolutionary War ("Society and Life in the 1960’s.").

The music then was all about standing out from society and being different, just like today, and people smoke marijuana to see a colorful, new world. Transgender bathrooms are a big issue in American politics, but less intense than the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Junior ("Society and Life in the 1960’s."). The fashion in the late 1960’s was much like today, with very revealing clothing. Shorts that look like bathingsuit bottoms but with a high-waisted top were all the rage, and that’s quite similar to what you can see when you look at a Hollister or Abercrombie magazine today (Phipps). But overall, people were still judged the same. Judgement has been around since caveman times, and is shown in racism in the 1960’s and today with sexuality stereotypes ("Society and Life in the 1960’s."). Although prejudice minds can take different forms, they will mostly likely exist until the end of our
