Visual media is a major influence of almost everyone’s everyday life. For most people it has and is the primary source of entertainment. Television, computers, laptops, tablets, and smart phones with the access to many forms of visual media are used on a regular basis. These forms of visual media entertainment have helped to shape American culture and its value’s, the list is endless for the amount of information transported into our homes daily.
Television has helped to create our culture by making an impact on what we read, such as books, newspapers and magazines as well as their content. One form of visual entertainment media that shaped American culture the most is the invention of cable television. There were only three major networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC which accounted for all prime time television viewing. With the introduction of cable television a wide selection of channels were accessible to consumers. This offered a much broader and open detailed form of entertainment. Movies, sports from around the world, news, and live war coverage, have all made an impact on our culture. Friends and family are able to gather together to watch the Super Bowl in bars and at parties. On Tuesday nights families gather around to watch as American Idol introduces young talent to the screen. Politicians use television for campaigning, the President uses television to broadcast current events from the white house. There are so many advantages that cable television offer, one get 24 hour live news coverage and you can also keep up with the latest fashions to wear. Television has been one of the biggest influences on American families today.
