On March 28th of this year, I had the opportunity to attend “From Holocaust to Hope” Presentation by Mrs. Irene Butter that was put on by the Office of International Program. Mrs. Irene Butter, a Holocaust survivor’ words to the audience were how we could fight against injustice that we have seen in recent events across the country. Growing up in a large, African American and Baptist Family and attending a private school in northeast Ohio, I did not know a lot about other religions and faiths after much. One day at the Union, I overheard a conversation of how a black person could not practice the Jewish Faith and that is was against social norms. Therefore, later in the week, I would inform one of my closest friends about the conversation that I overheard, and she informed us about the Presentation that Mrs. Butter would be giving later in the week, which I agreed to attend. The primary lesson that stood out to me would be the fact that everything that occurs throughout life can be a lesson learned. We can learn from tragedies and accomplishments. Most importantly, Mrs. Butter taught us that friendships are valuable bonds that can help us get through difficult situations in life. This fact without a doubt, would not have been revealed to me without this presentation. Since it has been almost a month after the presentation, I am more open to challenging my own values and beliefs but also stepping out of my comfort zone. This was made present also throughout my first two semesters in BGSU, as I only really mastered material when I stepped out of my comfort zone and challenged altogether. I was challenged in the Honors College but also learned to step out of my comfort zone when I would visit my instructor’s office hours to ask for help or
